Frequently Asked Questions

What is your cancellation policy?

What is your cancellation policy?

It makes sense changes or cancellations to counselling sessions may be necessary due to life happening! If you find yourself unable to attend your scheduled session, I kindly request that you let me know at your earliest convenience. This allows me to offer clients in need of support or on the waitlist the session availability. I do hold a policy requiring a 48-hour notice period for any changes or cancellations. Changes or cancellations made within this 48-hour window will incur full session fees. You can definitely change your appointments as much as you need to work with your evolving schedule beyond the 48 hours! I will of course consider exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Thank you for understanding.

I function pretty well in my day to day, would counselling be beneficial for me?

I function pretty well in my day to day, would counselling be beneficial for me?

I've noticed there are often misconceptions surrounding counselling, particularly the belief that one must be facing significant challenges or struggles to seek therapeutic support. However, I deeply hold the perspective that counselling is not solely reserved for moments of crisis or distress. Instead, I see it as a valuable tool for personal growth and development that can benefit individuals in various aspects of their lives. Whether it's strengthening relationships, uncovering untapped potential, or working towards specific goals, the process of guided self-reflection can offer invaluable insights and support. By engaging in this journey of self-discovery, individuals have the opportunity to explore their strengths and growing edges, understand their emotions and behaviours more deeply, and ultimately strive towards becoming the best versions of themselves.

will my sessions be covered by extended health benefits?

WILL MY SESSIONS BE COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH BENEFITS?

Many extended health benefits plans and insurance providers include coverage for psychotherapy conducted by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I recommend verifying the coverage details with your insurance providers before our initial session to understand how your plan will reimburse you.

what can i expect in my first counselling session with you?

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY FIRST COUNSELLING SESSION WITH YOU?

It's completely understandable to feel uncertain if you've never experienced counseling before. Don't worry—I've got you covered! If you're unsure if we'd be a good fit, I highly recommend scheduling a complimentary 15-minute consultation. This will give you a chance to get a better sense of what it would be like to work together. If we've already had this consultation, fantastic—I'm excited to work with you!

My primary focus is always on building a strong relationship from the outset. Establishing a safe and trusting rapport with you is paramount to me. I'm interested in knowing you beyond the challenges you're facing, connecting with you on a human to human level.

During our first session, I like to guide you through what to expect from counselling and from me as your counsellor, particularly in how I'll address your what you may be coming in with. Many people wonder if they need to disclose everything right away, but that's not necessary. You're welcome to share what you're comfortable with, and I'll approach our discussions with gentle curiosity and exploration.

One of the beautiful aspects of the therapeutic journey is that things unfold over time. With a trauma-informed approach, my priority is ensuring your safety and building trust every step of the way.

ARE OUR COUNSELLING SESSIONS CONFIDENTIAL?

Absolutely, confidentiality is what makes counselling effective and it's held in the highest regard. Your privacy is of the utmost importance, and any information you share is treated with strict confidentiality. However, there are certain circumstances where confidentiality would be breached:

If there is an immediate or imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, if there are suspicions or knowledge of harm to a child or vulnerable person, or if our records are subpoenaed by a court of law.

If you provide written consent (a Release of Information) for confidential information to be shared. This may be necessary if you request or authorize your therapist to collaborate with other professionals who are involved in your care.
